LAST DAY :(

On our last day we started off by wishing Linda good luck for her future as it was her last day here as well. We all ate lots of sweets and talked a lot. After an emotional speech by Frances we all got right back to work.

To start work again we begun sending Christmas letters to various schools and centres in the local area. This ended up taking up a very long time. We had write a message in the letters, address the envelopes and then put the greeting cards in the envelopes. Then Cornelius and me did some shelf tidying which lasted up until lunch time.

After lunch we started our usual desk work. However today we were overwhelmed by the amount of people and therefore were very busy. Alex also gave us some tasks which included cutting some posters, putting up posters, Shelley made a Christmas tree and also we picking specially selected books on the environment.

I would like to wrap up my final blog entry by saying a couple of things. I would like to thank all the staff here at Ashfield Library and also at the council for making our stay feel very welcoming and also for all of them being so friendly and supportive. Special thanks Alex for making our time tables very interesting and going to the trouble of making us write a blog, Kathy for having such a energetic personality, Ponnary for showing us many things, Frances for giving us an motivating talk on what choices we should do with our futures, Helen for showing us around council and for talking a lot about what has worked for her, and finally to all the people down at the desk who were always willing to offer their help. I wish them all the very best so that they can have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. :)

Haberfield Day 2

Today we had to go to Haberfield library to go and decorate the walls with posters. We spent most of the morning doing that and Penny was very pleased with our effort.

Then while we waited for Kathy to arrive we did some desk work. Once Kathy arrived we spent some time sending stuff to each others mobiles. When we arrived back to Ashfield it was time for lunch. When we came back we spent the whole day doing desk work because our computers weren't logged on to do our blogs. Not much happened today, ,but it wasn't boring.

Wednesday (council talk)

Today Shelley and me went to visit Helen who gave us an introduction into the role of the council. We each received a free key ring. Around thirty minutes later Cornelius arrived late and also received the same gift. Helen was very good at talking to us and shared her knowledge with us.

After showing us, so many things like the council chambers and other rooms, we were introduced to someone whose name I can't remember. There we saw many things like the place where all the old record books are kept. Then we each did separate tasks. Shelley did filing and Cornelius and me folded letters and put them into envelopes. Once that was done it was time for lunch time.

When we came back we did desk work for the rest of the day. Today however involved more tidying than anything else.

School Holiday Preparation Tuesday

Today for the whole day we helped out with the school holiday preparation work. This involved
us cutting posters and other papers. After that we decorated the notice board in the children's area. During our time in the children's area we were visited by our teachers who wanted to check up on us.

Then it was time for lunch and Cornelius, Shelley and me all took our break. When we came back we cut out more stuff. Then we each made our own activity for the school holiday program. Shelley made some superhero glasses, Cornelius made a puzzle and I made a green Christmas creature.

Haberfield Morning Tea

Today Cornelius and me had to go to Haberfield Library to participate in the morning tea which was prepared for all the house bound people. There we also met Shelley who is also doing work experience with us for one week.

At Haberfield we did all the usual library duties and also organising the morning tea. We helped out with the raffle and also giving all the people name tags. It was a very good morning and we all had fun. after that however we had to clean up all the dishes. Cornelius washed and rinsed them, I dried them and Shelley help me dry and also packed the dishes away.

After that Ponnary took us back to Ashfield and we helped pack up some stuff and then we were off to lunch. Once lunch was over we started our desk work on the library floor. During desk work our friend visited us and gave us each lunch from his work experience.

In conclusion, today went by very quickly as there was so much to do but overall it was alright.

FRIDAY! :)

Today we started with an introduction of Ponnay's role. This lasted throughout the whole morning. This involved the housebound duties. We learnt many new things and did many helped carry stuff. We were also taken to Haberfield Library which was great because I have never actually been in there before. To my surprise it was very neat but also very small, with not many people visiting there.

After that we had lunch and met up with some friends. As soon as our lunch break was over we helped with the holiday program which involved making models to present later. Then we cleared up the notice board in the children's area and then finished up the day with our blogs.

Overall it has been a very easy day as not much was done and I can say that I have had a pleasant first week working here with so many friendly staff.

Day 4

The morning today started off differently as we begun with the desk work on the library floor. Luckily since it was early and not many people visited the library. As a result Alex told Cornelius and me to draw superheroes. There I reminded myself how hard it is to draw.

After finishing my superhero I started tidying the shelves which lasted all the way up till lunch time. During lunch I had a chance to meet up with some of my friends who were working.

When we came back we help Alex and Ponnary with some stuff. First we helped Ponnary scan all the books. After that Cornelius cut up pamphlets and I helped laminate posters. Once that was done I helped arrange the activities which are for Book Busters during the school holidays.
